We are thrilled and honoured to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science by commemorating the achievements of Dr. Aditi Pant, who successfully broke gender barriers in a male-dominated field, and became the first Indian woman scientist to visit Antarctica. As a tribute to this pioneering oceanographer, our scientists have named a new bacterial species discovered in a lake in Antarctica as Deinococcus pantiae sp. nov.
