DNA Sequencing

For catering to the sequencing needs of the Institute, Automated DNA Sequencing Facility was started with the installation of ABI 310 Genetic Analyzer (a single capillary machine) on 27th March 2001. This machine till 30th August 2004 was largely used for sequencing of DNA samples. Since then it is used for Gene Scan Analysis of DNA samples.

This facility received and installed a new a) ABI 3730 ? a 48 capillary high throughput DNA Sequencer (up-gradable to 96 capillary) on 30th August 2004, b) An Eppendorf epMotion 5070 liquid handling workstation and c) Millipore sample purification system. This facility has processed more than twenty thousand samples from in house and also from other organisations like National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune University (PU), Agharkar Reserch Institute (ARI), Serum Institute, National AIDS Research Institute (NARI), National Institute of Virology (NIV), Central Institute of Fisheries (CIFE) etc.
