NCCS has in place an Internal Complaints Committee (for the prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace) as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Department of Women and Child development, the Honourable Supreme Court of India dated 13.08.1997, and the judgement in Vishaka & Others vs State of Rajasthan and others (JT1997 9& SC 384). The duty of this committee is to deter or prevent the commission of acts of sexual harassment and to provide procedures for the resolution, settlement or prosecution of the said acts by taking all steps required to mitigate such incidents. This committee is headed by a senior woman scientist, and has at least 50% women members.  Further, to prevent any undue pressure or influence from seniors or peers, an external member from an appropriate NGO, or one having familiarity or experience with these matters, is included in this committee.
